Microsoft is bringing some new Artificial Intelligence features to improve its video conferencing software called Microsoft Teams. These new improvements are mainly aimed to boost the audio and video quality.
This feature was announced by Microsoft in their blogpost. This feature mainly includes the Echo cancellation, De-reverberation with real-time screen optimizations for video playback, and brightness and soft-focus video enhancements. This echo cancellation mainly eliminates the echo when someone has their microphone too close to the speaker. Here the software is using Artificial Intelligence to recognize the difference between sound from a speaker and the user’s voice. It will eliminate the echo without suppressing speech or inhibiting the ability of multiple parties for speaking at same time.
De-reverberation adjustments for poor room acoustics. It means that in specific environments, room acoustics can cause sound to bounce, or reverberate, causing users voice to sound shallow as if they are speaking within a cavern. Microsoft Teams will be going to use machine learning to convert the captured audio signals to sound as if the users are speaking in a close range on the mic.
There is also an interruptibility that Microsoft has bought for more natural conversations. It is a natural element of conversation that has the ability to interrupt for clarifications or validations. It is mainly accomplished through full-duplex transmission of audio that allows users to speak and hear others at the same time. When headphones are not in use then it might be difficult to remove echo while maintaining the full-duplex audio. Microsoft Team is going to use a training model that has been fed with 30, 000 hours of speech samples to retain desired voice. While suppressing the unwanted audio signals, resulting in more fluid dialogues.
This new update will also bring better background noise suppression on Microsoft Teams with the company’s proprietary Artificial Intelligence based noise suppressions now being a default feature for all users. Apart from this, Microsoft is also saying that Artificial Intelligence has helped with better video and screen sharing quality.
